Quo Vadis & Friends: Hang Fire
28th September
Enticed by the allure of smoke and fire, Samantha Evans and Shauna Gunn ventured on a six-month road trip across America to sample the very best of barbecue.
Through a gruelling onslaught of ribs, steaks, wings and more, they unearthed many secrets of the cuisine, from the intricacies of spice rubs to the notable impact of different wood varieties, cures and brines. It was their first step to becoming ‘The First Ladies of Barbecue’.
Sam and Shauna’s delight in southern hospitality and food inspired them to bring a touch of that style back to the UK with them, and Hang Fire was born. What began as a pop-up in a backstreet Cardiff pub rapidly gained momentum and huge popularity, earning a ‘Best Street Food’ Award at the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards.
Lately, Sam and Shauna have been inspiring the public to take up their tongs with appearances on TV and at key foodie festivals, and with their bold, beautiful Hang Fire Cookbook. We couldn’t be more delighted that, on Wednesday 28th September, the First Ladies themselves will be joining us in the QV kitchen to put together an epic low and slow barbecue banquet. Tickets to this smokiest of suppers are £60, include a welcome drink, and we can cater to dietary requirements if advised in advance.
