Quo Vadis & Friends: Mangal 2
03rd August
Sertac and Ferhat Dirik’s father, Ali Dirik, was a key player in introducing the ocakbasi to the UK with his groundbreaking restaurant Mangal 2. 26 years later, the Dalston darling has been passed down to the strapping sons, who decided to spend lockdown realising their plans of over a decade in evolving its style into a more contemporary iteration of Turkish grill cooking. You may have heard tell of mushroom mantis that burst with flavour, of succulent cull yaw chops, of mackerel pide sandwiches that brought glimmers of joy to locals in the darkest depths of various lockdowns.
Working with local farmers, fishermen and producers, Sertaç’s cooking celebrates the British seasons, prioritising preservation and waste-reduction whilst respecting the traditions, flavours and rules that classic Turkish cooking demands. In the words of Jay Rayner, ‘Its brave and compelling. And as it happens, it’s properly delicious.’
We are utterly thrilled that, on 3rd August, the boys will stray from their beloved ocakbasi grill and join us in the QV kitchen to create a four-course, family style supper brimming with modern Turkish mastery. Tickets to the feast will include a welcome drink, and we can cater to dietary requirements if advised in advance.
